Born in 1971, Nicaragua Latin music superstar of / folk / indie music singer songwriter Perrozompopo (Ramon Mejia) belongs to a generation of social and ideological changes that have deeply marked the compass of his work.

War, poverty, the martyrs, the bullet of the dictatorship, missing men and women, childhood, the marginalized, the church, the silence, corruption, children, the song, the armed guitar, the bus and the thief, the silent faces of so many country people, the lack of letters and desks, the friends, the love, disappointment, and ideas that still exist beneath the paving stones, mixed with author’s music, rock, ballad, rap, reggae, and other Latin American influences, giving to this new music geographic urban-operation, is also the result of all these changes and Nicaraguan experiences of a lost generation.

Perrozompopo describes himself as part of a new generation of artists in Central America pushing for social change through the arts. He draws inspiration from his country’s civil war, poverty, corruption, the church and the overall human experience to enrich his music. “I write about the reality of where I live. “I explore the richness of our language. I combine poetry with music.”

Under the artistic moniker "Perrozompopo", Mejia chose a colloquialism for "street smart" and a nickname for a species of gecko native to Nicaragua, as his artistic name as a way to identify with his country and his people.
